Hi, I’m Laura.

And I know what it means to be a first and an only.

I add my own lyrics to songs (especially when I don’t know the words), greet babies and dogs on the street, and never need a reason to celebrate.

I’m also Black, female, and ADHD, and while those things don’t define me, they have deeply impacted my professional journey and how I show up every day.

I spent a long time trying to minimize these fundamental aspects of my identity to fit in, only to learn that they were critical to how I led in the workplace.

Currently, I lead coaching, executive development, and talent management at Flatiron Health, a Roche-owned healthcare technology company.

“Laura brings her full self to the table and allows you to do the same.”

Product Leader

My unique combination of nearly 15 years of coaching, business, and HR experience along with my lived experience as a “first and only” has strengthened my vision - to remind those who have questioned if they belong in leadership, that they belong.

My psychology and business background and multi-sector experience across financial services, consulting, tech and healthcare, has equipped me with a nuanced understanding of change management, diversity equity and inclusion and leadership development at an individual and systems level.

At Deloitte, I consulted with private and public sector financial services organizations on end to end change management, communications, and DEI. At Citi, I worked with the Chief Diversity Officer to roll out a metrics driven, business-led approach to diversity and inclusion firm-wide. Laura also designed and implemented Citi’s first company-wide leadership development program for Black rising leaders.

At Flatiron, I spearheaded the company’s first leadership development program and first talent management and succession process. I’ve built ERG programs from the ground up, and led sponsorship and mentorship programs for Black and Latinx employees. I run Flatiron's executive coaching practice (and formally ran the global executive coaching practice at Citi). I created and currently serve as an internal coach for Flatiron’s leadership coaching program.

My passion for coaching the “firsts” (first-time leaders and managers) and the “onlys” (BIPOC, women, etc.) runs deep.

Because of my own lived experience, I've found purpose in working with underrepresented, underestimated, and first time leaders at start-ups, scale ups and large enterprises.

My vision has become more nuanced over time, but my why remains the same—I want you to silence the voice that says “no you can’t” and listen to the often quieter voice that says “yes you can.”

“Her presence and commitment marked a key turning point in the evolution of our company. Laura is a game-changer.”

My Experience

Anavah Coaching in practice

Many coaches focus on helping clients build their skills in addressing their most pressing business and leadership challenges. Laura goes a level deeper, and embraces an approach called integral coaching.

Integral coaching focuses on addressing challenges within the context of the whole person and the system in which they’re operating. Working from the inside out, clients become more present, less reactive, more trusting of themselves, and ultimately more courageous, allowing them to respond to the world (and their challenges) in a much more powerful, centered way. They’re able to address limiting beliefs and forge constructive paths forward.

In addition, Laura integrates mindfulness, adult developmental psychology, and practical, research-backed tools to help her clients deepen their level of self-awareness, agency and resilience.

Don't be afraid to claim the space that was always yours.
